The next day, they changed direction and headed north toward the mountains. They maintained a steady pace and avoided the road as much as possible. As the days stretched on, the climate grew colder, and snow gradually took over the landscape. Finally, after five days of riding, they made it to Mëlnar, a town several miles southeast of Brunland. Mëlnar sat at the top of a ridge overlooking a steep half-bowl-shaped valley formed by the mountains. The valley sloped down to the Armendr Sea. At nearly the exact center of the half-bowl, Brunland sat right on the coastline at the valley’s base.
