Nirong turned to Addie and said, “Miss Addie, would you please take Mister Amon to see the engineer?”
Addie hesitated, but then bowed, consenting to the request. She motioned for Amon to follow her. The two of them headed for the door to the lower decks. As large as the ship was, Amon was surprised that the corridors and rooms were so small, a fact he pointed out to Addie who merely shrugged. They passed by numerous rooms, mess halls, and kitchens all along the route. The sounds of clanking metal and working machinery reached Amon’s ears. They grew steadily louder the longer they walked.
